Rationalizing Rotation

                  Spells we use:

Flame Shock: Instantly sears the target with fire, causing 500 Fire damage immediately and 834 Fire damage over 18 sec

Lava Burst: You hurl molten lava at the target, dealing 1192 to 1518 Fire damage. If your Flame Shock is on the target, Lava Burst will deal a critical strike.

Lightning Bolt: Casts a bolt of lightning at the target for 715 to 815 Nature damage.

Chain Lightning: Hurls a lightning bolt at the enemy, dealing 973 to 1111 Nature damage and then jumping to additional nearby enemies.  Each jump reduces the damage by 30%.  Affects 3 total targets.

Elemental Mastery: When activated, your next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Lava Burst spell becomes an instant cast spell. In addition, you gain 15% spell haste for 15 sec. Elemental Mastery shares a cool down with Nature’s Swiftness.

Rotation:

Until recently we used Chain lighting as a filter spell for when Lava burst was on cool down.  Now we know it takes to much mana and with enough haste lightning bolt alone can do more DPS then chain lighting can.

My rotation starts off with a Lightning bolt, followed by a Flame shock and then a Lava burst.  Rinse and repeat.  During a boss fight where the group needs to run into position I like to cast Elemental Mastery so I can get a nice instant cast off.  Also as most raiders know a boss fight tends to include some movement that’s when I renew flame shock or if Elemental Mastery is off cool down I use that.

Rotation questions to ask yourself:

  1. Is Flame shock on the target? If not then cast it.
  2. Is Lava burst off Cool down? If it is then cast it.
  3. Am I casting Lightning bolt till Lava burst is off cool down?  I better. . .
  4. Are my loots going to drop?

  1. Man, I wish Lock rotations were that simple!

I’m sure there a few conditional things you toss in now and then, right? Fight/boss specific things, procs and such. What about those? Do Elemental Shammys have sweet procs to spend from trinkets or glyphs?

  2. Well of course we do. I will be covering the Fight / Boss specific for Icecrown Citadel bosses in the post ive got coming up soon. As for proc’s it depends on the trinket. Glyphs dont really give us anything other then buffs to our spellpower or out damage. Thanks.

  3. I’m not an Elemental shaman, but I like the picture you used 🙂 Wouldn’t that be a fun way to play!
